The following alert has been issued by the Department of Health.

Changes to the warning area impacting the Midwest and Gascoyne region. Changes to alert level and impacted areas in the Goldfields region.

Heatwave Watch and Act - PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST THE IMPACTS OF EXTREME HEAT - Parts of Midwest and Goldfields

  • This is a prolonged heatwave, and it is important for everyone to stay alert to the risk of heat stress and heat stroke.

WHAT TO DO

  • Avoid exercise and outdoor work in the hottest part of the day.
  • If you must go out, wear a hat and sunscreen and take sufficient water with you.
  • Take shelter in a cool place.
  • If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.
  • Drink water frequently unless your doctor normally limits your fluids.
  • Never leave a person or pet in a vehicle.
  • Check in regularly with elderly neighbours and other vulnerable people.
  • Provide shelter and plenty of cool water for pets and other animals.
  • Avoid travelling in the hottest part of the day where possible.

  • This is a prolonged heatwave, and it is important for everyone to stay alert to the risk of heat stress and heat stroke.
  • People travelling on inland roads need to be prepared for extreme heat.
  • We advise to delay travel in the hottest part of the day.

WHAT TO DO

  • Avoid exercise and outdoor work in the hottest part of the day.
  • If you must go out, wear a hat and sunscreen and take sufficient water with you.
  • Take shelter in a cool place.
  • If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.
  • Drink water frequently unless your doctor normally limits your fluids.
  • Never leave a person or pet in a vehicle.
  • Check in regularly with elderly neighbours and other vulnerable people.

Heatwave Advice - MONITOR CONDITIONS - Central Wheatbelt

  • This is a prolonged heatwave and is it important for everyone to stay alert to the risk of heat stress and heat stroke.

WHAT TO DO

  • Plan outdoor and strenuous activities for days and times forecast to be coolest.
  • Stock up on bottled water if possible.
  • Get a battery powered radio with working batteries.
  • Charge mobile devices in the event there is a power outage.
  • Tell elderly neighbours and other vulnerable people about the hot weather coming.
  • Make sure you have shelter ready and water for pets and other animals.
  • If you have an air-conditioner check it is working.

EXTRA INFORMATION

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast extreme to severe heatwave conditions across areas of central and inland WA and these are expected to persist until the weekend.

Heatwaves are dangerous. Take extra care to prevent heat stress and heat stroke. In extreme circumstances you could be hospitalised or die.

Heatwaves can affect:

  • Babies and young children
  • Older children and teenagers
  • Pregnant women
  • Older people
  • People with existing physical/mental health conditions or on certain medications
  • People that exercise in the heat
