Last Thursday, The Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) and the Suicide Prevention Coordinator Maxine Ryder and Gwen Rakabula attended the consultation workshop. The purpose of this visit was to provide a cultural lens regarding the purpose-built, short stay accommodation facility for Aboriginal visitors to Geraldton.
The workshops where in consultation with the Geraldton based organisations and Department of Communities Housing providing feedback on all aspects of service delivery, management, staffing and Cultural awareness and safety.
The Centre will be located on a heritage listed and registered land and will have the capacity to accommodate approximately 100 First Nations peoples from any region needing to attend Geraldton.
The facility will include 44 units, a communal dining area, a nature play area for the children as well as a twenty-four-hour operating reception to ensure assistance can be offered at any time.
